Abstract
The 10th century is an important time period in the history of Islamic thought. Because this century, on the one hand, was the golden age of Muslims in the field of science, philosophy and culture and on the other hand, was a period of time when Islamic geography was divided and political confusion and unrest arose. al-Fârâbî and members of Ikhwân al-Safâ community, who have made great contributions to the Islamic philosophical culture, also lived in this period. The purpose of this study is to determine the basic elements that Fârâbî and İhvân-ı Safâ should be in the political structure they want to create and to determine their contribution to the achievement of individual and social happiness by providing information about these elements and to evaluate their reflection to the present day. We see that Farabi and Ikhwan-ı Safa, who aim for the happiness of all people of the world, have determined the issues that should be done and avoided in order to achive this goal in the understanding of politics. In this system, some basic political pedestals are needed to achive individual and social happiness. We can express this basic elements as the virtuous head of state, order, mutual assistance, knowledge, unity of purpose, qualificationand merit, division of work, friendship and brotherhood. We can say that these basic pedestals identified are important fort he acquistion of social happiness.
